Automotive Retail, Service and Repair

The Automotive Industry employs 3.1% of the total Western Australian workforce, which equates to over 33,300 people (ABS, labour force survey May 2007) involved in the manufacture, wholesale, retail, repairs and service of commercial, industrial and recreational vehicles.
 
There are over 200 occupations within the Automotive Industry including Automotive Technician (Light & Heavy Vehicle) Automotive Electrician, Vehicle Painter, Panel Beater, Vehicle Body Builder, Marine Mechanic, Motorcycle Mechanic Parts Interpreter, Motor Vehicle and Accessories Sales Person, Bicycle Specialist Technician and Bicycle Mechanic.
 
The value of the Western Australian Automotive Industry in 2005/06 was $1.6 billion and represented 1.7% of the total GDP, this is likely to increase to over $2.2 billion by 2013/14.
